The First Annual Lansing Netwars Challenge

Saturday, 2010, May 22 11:00am - 5:00pm

The Lansing chapter of the ISSA in concert with the Grand Rapids ISSA chapter is putting on a Security Event at MSU next Saturday. We have SANS instructors presenting and it should be a fantastic day. These sessions focus on information security technologies and provide hands-on lab exercises that prepare participants to effectively attack a computer system and analyze a compromised computer system. Attack tools such as Metasploit and some forensic tools are discussed and configured. Best practices will be examined, along with solutions to real-world problems associated with information security. Participants will expand their knowledge of security tools and techniques through various lab exercises. Participants need to be comfortable with configuring TCP/IP network parameters. A basic working knowledge of scanning networks (e.g. using nmap) and analyzing systems (e.g. using Process Explorer, Autoruns, and Procmon from the Sysinternals Suite) is recommended. Participants need to bring their own laptop with a DVD drive and will be given a copy of a BackTrack 4 Linux Live DVD to use for the class.
